Baros Maldives
North Malé Atoll · 16km from Malé
An award-winning intimate retreat with one of the best house reefs in the Maldives

About Baros Maldives
Baros Maldives has operated since 1973 and its house reef has been developing undisturbed for over five decades — creating one of the most biodiverse and consistently reliable reef ecosystems of any resort island in the Maldives. Reef sharks are encountered directly from the beach. Turtles nest on the island and forage on the reef year-round. Eagle rays cruise the reef edge in the early morning. The circular coral system that surrounds the island means there is always a sheltered entry point regardless of current or wind direction.
What makes Baros exceptional for snorkellers is immediate access — no boat, no booking, no schedule. Guests can enter the water from the beach at sunrise, again before lunch, and again at sunset. Each session is different — different currents bring different marine life, different light reveals different coral colours. The dive centre has been operating since 1979 — one of the oldest in the Maldives — and the team's knowledge of the reef system is encyclopaedic.
With only 75 villas and an adults-only atmosphere, Baros delivers the kind of quiet intimacy that allows complete immersion in the reef experience. The Lighthouse restaurant is one of the most romantic dining settings in the Maldives. The overwater Water Pool Villas have glass panels in the floor revealing the reef below — and villa steps that lead directly into the water, metres from the reef edge.
Accommodation
Baros offers 75 recently renovated villas across beach and overwater categories. All villas have a private pool and direct access to the beach or lagoon. The Baros Residence — the island's pinnacle — is a standalone villa with private beach, Jacuzzi, and dedicated butler service. The overwater Water Pool Villas have direct steps into the house reef and glass-floor panels revealing the marine life below.
- Deluxe Beach Pool Villas — lush garden, private pool, beach access
- Water Pool Villas — overwater, private pool, direct reef access, glass floor panels
- Grand Water Pool Villas — expanded overwater villa with additional deck space

Dining
The dining programme at Baros is intimate and excellent — three restaurants delivering cuisine of a quality that consistently draws comparison to Michelin-standard establishments. The Lighthouse is the island's signature restaurant — a converted lighthouse serving fine dining with panoramic ocean views that is widely cited as one of the most romantic dining experiences in the Maldives. Cayenne serves grilled seafood and Maldivian cuisine. Lime serves all-day international dining.
